Creative Arts Program

Venture’s Creative Fine Arts Program is now in its seventh year of operation and it is one of our most innovative, excellent and most well attended programs. A small staff, the majority of which work part time, is extremely dedicated to bringing art in its many forms (painting, sculpture, dance, music) to over 500 developmentally disabled persons.

The purpose of Venture’s Creative Arts Program is to encourage people with developmental disabilities to personally express themselves through creativity, to discover new cultures, build confidence, and use their imagination to create, enhance their awareness through movement and song and to improve their hand-eye coordination.

Each individual enrolled in the Creative Arts Program has a specific plan of action designed to provide instruction and support to meet their individual therapeutic needs and goals. These programs have personal and group socialization and recreation goals as well.

Over the past two years, the students in Camp Venture’s Creative Arts program have shared their talents with Rockland County through a series of successful special events and performances. In 2011, fine arts students (painting & ceramics) showed their work in a month-long exhibition at the Pearl River Public Library and at Vincent’s Ear, a private gallery in Nyack, New York.

In September of 2011, Camp Venture’s Music Program band, Rockademy, put on a two hour extravaganza. Camp Venture also took part in the 2012 Keep Rockland Beautiful Art Receptacle Contest. The Music Program performed two musicals, Rock of Ages - Venture Style, and a holiday variety show entitled Jingle Ball.

This year, our fine arts students will be featured in a month-long exhibition (painting & ceramics) and Venture will be nominating artists for the 2013 Arts Council of Rockland County Arts Awards as well as undertake two major musical productions.
